From the Fargo area, take Highway 10 to Detroit Lakes and turn east on Highway 34 to Snellman. From Snellman, go north on Highway 39 approximately two miles. At The Wilds Resort sign, turn left onto a gravel road. The north woods surrounds the last four miles of the scenic drive into the resort. The chances are good you will spot some deer along the way!
From the Minneapolis area, take Interstate 94 to Sauk Centre and then turn north on Highway 71 to Park Rapids. From Park Rapids drive west on Highway 34 to Snellman, turning north on Highway 39.
Highway 34 is known as The Lake Country Scenic Byway between Detroit Lakes and Walker, and Highway 71 north of Park Rapids to Itasca State Park. There is much to see and do along this historic byway. The drive to the Wilds Resort is through some of the prettiest scenery in the state, and the resort is located along the edge of the Smoky Hills forest area. You are sure to enjoy your vacation even before you get here.
There are two hundred and ninety-six lakes in Becker County. The Wilds Resort and Campground in located on Shell Lake, the county’s third largest lake.
